So a few weeks ago the good people of Grosvenor Casino Sheffield very kindly invited me along to sample the delights of their newly launched grill menu*. I got myself dolled up and headed down to the venue on Dutchess Road, which is just past the train station and Sheffield College.
After a cocktail reception, festive crackers and some deliberation I went for a starter of bread and olives, which was delicious (albeit a slightly boring a choice on my part!). This was only due to feeling that the starter choices could have been a little more varied, as I was in the mood for something a bit more carb-based than king prawns, spicy chicken wings or calamari- some of the alternative options the menu had to offer.
I then chose an 8oz fillet steak for my main which came alongside chips, onion rings, salad and a peppercorn sauce, and my oh my was I in for a treat.
Now I’ve had a lot of steaks in my life, and I can confidently say that the quality and taste on this one was spot on and cooked to medium-rare perfection- undoubtedly one of the best I’ve ever had (I’m getting hungry just writing about it!). The only thing that could have been slightly improved was that some of the chips were slightly overcooked, but the rest of the meal was absolutely impeccable and the service excellent as well.
On to dessert- probably my joint favorite part of meals alongside the main, I’m an absolute sucker for a sweet treat and the dessert menu at Grosvenor did not disappoint. I’m a big believer that for a dessert menu to be universally appealing, it should always contain at least one chocolate option so my eyes lit up when I saw the option of a chocolate and salted caramel torte with vanilla ice cream… literally all my dreams come true at once. It was absolutely incredible.
We spent the rest of the evening in the casino making a real night of it, learning some of the games and gambling (thankfully) only a little of our money away. I’m a complete casino newbie, but I was looked after amazingly by the staff who couldn’t do enough for me- showing me around as well as taking the time out to demonstrate how to play simpler games such as blackjack and roulette… though I think I’ll leave the poker till next time!
All in all it was a wonderful, glam way to spend a Saturday night, and one that I wouldn’t have thought of on my own initiative. I would like to extend a massive thank you to all the management team and staff for their hospitality- and for the amazing food, too.
Whether you’re an avid gambler or complete newbie, if you fancy something a little different alongside great food and a welcoming atmosphere, it’s definitely the place to go. To check out the casino or book a table, here.
Until next time,
