A stay at the new Ibis Styles Hotel Leeds

Hi everyone,

A couple of weeks back I was a happy little bunny as I’d been invited to go and spend a weekend in Leeds to review the new Ibis Styles hotel in the city centre. Lucky me!

Though Leeds isn’t exactly far away I’ve never spent a great deal of time there, so I was looking forward to relaxing, doing some exploring and going to see my brother who has lived there since last year.

The hotel itself is about a 10 minute walk from the station and, from the outside, looks pretty much like a normal Ibis. It’s when you get inside that the magic happens!

I love a good hotel review. Not just because, let’s face it, it’s a lovely perk of blogging to have, but because each one has its own unique offering for the customer.

In the Leeds Ibis Styles, we were met by big, beautiful hollywood lights aligning the entire reception area. When you looked closely they actually spelt Ibis Styles Leeds which I thought was awesome as hellllllll

The whole hotel is themed around Leeds/Yorkshire, with city art from local artists on display and Yorkshire sayings embedded into the interior design of each room.

The rooms themselves, admittedly, are quite small. But they have funky decor, beautiful marble bathrooms, are very clean and presentable and in my view would do the job for a short one or two night city break on a bit of a budget (average cost per room £99 on a Saturday and £64 mid-week).

The room costs also include breakfast which, for me, is always a winner. There’s something really nice about having a full english after a night away in a big cosy marshmallowy bed!

Whilst we were there we also had a meal at the Marco Pierre White New York Italian restaurant. I was reaaaally excited because I drive past the one in Sheffield all the time and wonder what it’s like!

I didn’t have a starter (for once!) and went straight in with a main course of rump steak, fries, garlic butter and rocket and a big chocolate brownie for dessert. I think it’s quite hard to differentiate with steak, generally they’re either good, or bad, or very occasionally amazing, you know? But this one was definitely good and at £20.95 was priced at a reasonable price for steak.

Similarly, the chicago brownie with hot chocolate sauce and milk ice cream was absolutely delicious – definitely on par with some of the best I’ve reviewed such as Owlerton or the Grosvenor Casino. I loved the milk ice cream, it sounds like a strange flavour to have but it was a really flavorsome and moreish.

I’d definitely consider going back to Marco’s and trying some of the other dishes on their menu. All in all, it was good food at what I would describe as a mid-range chain restaurant.

The staff at the restaurant and the hotel in general were great and Chaz and I had a great stay. It was nice to have a little holiday, even if only a 40 minute train ride away, and I’d defintiely consider staying at one of the Ibis Styles hotels again if I needed a value hotel that’s nicer than your average Premier Inn or Travelodge type place.

Lots of love,

H x
