Right… where do I begin?
I’ve been drafting this post out in my mind for quite some time now. Recently, I decided that I wanted to take the blog down a different angle. A very different angle really, as I have decided to start blogging as… well, me.
I had been toying with the idea of starting my own personal lifestyle blog for a while. But the time, effort and maintenance it takes to start and establish a well-run blog on top of giving The Sheffielder the time and content it deserves, seemed a pretty much unachievable task. This lead me to the most obvious, natural step- to rebrand The Sheffielder, blogging as myself instead.
The reason I have blogged anonymously for all this time was to place the main emphasis of the blog on the community, culture and businesses of Sheffield. I also believed that by blogging as a person, I would attach certain preconceptions about my abilities as a writer and the quality of my content due to my age, gender, occupation… everything that makes me who I am as a person. I still believe this to be true- it’s a judgement we all make naturally without even realising it.
Now that I have been blogging since January 2014, with a twitter following of 2k and an overall page reach of 10k and counting, I think it’s safe to say that I have done what I set out to do and established myself as a blog of substance, intelligence, and stature, without anyone having to know who I was. It was great, because I felt my content could appeal to everyone of all ages and occupations, but I feel like now is the right time to take a slightly different focus. I can’t wait to combine my life with The Sheffielder to make it my very own lifestyle blog, whilst still giving you readers an insight into the same wonderful things Sheffield has to offer.
I understand that this different focus might not appeal to some of you, and I completely appreciate that. I am, as always, so grateful for all the support I have received since the outset and look forward to welcoming the rest of you to carry on this incredible journey with me.
Until next time (the big reveal!)
